Record review
The order in question, earlier pleadings, connected orders and material documents provide the starting point.

Supreme Court proceedings call for a focused account of the legal questions, the orders already passed and the relief sought. The starting point is a careful review of the record rather than a promise about the outcome.
Prepare a brief chronology, copies of the relevant judgments and orders, the pleadings relied upon, and details of any pending hearing or deadline. Identify connected proceedings and earlier applications so that the procedural history can be understood together.
The appropriate course depends on the facts, procedural history and applicable requirements. Availability, conflicts, scope of work and arrangements for filing and appearance are addressed before an engagement is accepted. An enquiry does not itself create an advocate-client relationship.
Read source-linked case notes or find official court resources. Website material is general information, not advice on a particular case.
The appropriate remedy depends on the order, procedural history and applicable law. This is a general outline, not a promise that a petition will be accepted, listed urgently or succeed.
01
The order in question, earlier pleadings, connected orders and material documents provide the starting point.
02
Maintainability, jurisdiction, limitation and any urgent deadline need assessment before deciding the next step.
03
The proposed grounds and the precise final or interim relief sought should be identified against the record.
04
The petition, chronology and supporting papers must be prepared with the applicable filing requirements in mind.
05
Filing through the Advocate-on-Record includes attention to Registry requirements and any defects identified.
06
The record, grounds and relief inform preparation for the hearing. Any proposed briefing of additional counsel should be discussed as part of the engagement.
An adverse High Court order, an approaching appeal deadline, a need for interim protection, or consideration of a post-judgment remedy may call for prompt professional assessment. None of these circumstances establishes an entitlement to Supreme Court relief.
Please do not transmit confidential case papers through the initial enquiry form. Complete preliminary conflict and engagement checks and agree an appropriate document-sharing method first.
An Advocate-on-Record is entitled under the Supreme Court Rules to act as well as plead for a party before the Court. See the official Supreme Court Rules and Advocate-on-Record information.

An SLP asks the Court for permission to appeal under Article 136. Permission is discretionary; an adverse High Court order does not itself confer a further appeal as of right.
The route may depend on a statutory right, a certificate or leave granted by the Court. Provide the complete order and identify any connected proceedings.
A fundamental-rights claim and a request to transfer proceedings serve different purposes. Jurisdiction and the available alternative remedies need separate assessment.
These are limited post-judgment remedies, not another unrestricted appeal. Curative jurisdiction is exceptional and follows dismissal of review.
Filing does not itself suspend the order challenged. Explain the immediate risk, the relief required and any application already made below.
Do not assume one deadline fits every proceeding. Preserve the order date, copy-application details, service record and relevant holidays for calculation by counsel.

Ask the office whether a remote consultation can be arranged. Send a brief enquiry first, identifying the order, court and urgent date. Document-sharing, identity checks, instructions and any attendance requirements must then be agreed for the particular matter. A remote discussion does not remove a court requirement to attend.
Ask for clarity about record review, drafting, filing, Registry work, appearances, additional applications and any separate counsel briefing. Discuss court fees, copying, translation and other expenses where relevant. Confirm what is included, what is additional and how further work will be authorised; do not assume one quoted amount covers every stage.
Ask who will communicate with you and how you will receive the filing or diary number, details of defects requiring action, listing information and copies of orders. Keep your own dated record. Use the official Supreme Court website for case status, cause lists and orders, and clarify the next required step with counsel.
Disclose the existing engagement and all earlier filings at the outset. Ask what professional and procedural steps are needed before any change of representation. Do not arrange overlapping filings or assume that making a new enquiry transfers responsibility for a deadline.
Consider verified professional status, experience relevant to the legal issue, the clarity of the proposed assessment, communication arrangements and a transparent scope of work. No responsible assessment can assure admission, a stay, a particular Bench, an urgent listing or success. A familiar case title alone does not establish the role a lawyer performed.
Ask about the proposed scope and likely stages before committing. You can also consult the Court’s official legal-aid information to explore available assistance and current eligibility requirements.
